The Toronto District School Board voted to extend Pepsi's exclusive beverage contract for another year.
Pepsi Co. has 560 vending machines in the elementary and high schools in Toronto, which generated about $550,000 for the board this year.
At a meeting on Wednesday evening, board members voted to extend Pepsi's contract for another year while they look for other options.
Public consultations on a replacement for the vending machines will be held in the fall.
Staff will then study the issue and report back to the board in December.
In another decision the board voted to save 20 of the 39 school pools slated for closure.
Only seven pools will now face certain closure.
The rest will be on reprieve while the board looks for another way to keep them open.
If donations and permit money can't be found, those pools will close at the end of December.
