The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario has revoked the licence of one of the province's top psychiatrists after it found he sexually abused one of his patients.

Samuel Malcolmson, who was at one time the chief psychiatrist at Toronto's Queen Street Mental Health Centre — and who has a lecture theatre named after him the city's Centre for Addiction and Mental Health — was found to have committed acts that "would reasonably be regarded... as disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional," according to a finding published Thursday on the college's website.

Malcolmson was found to have had a continuing sexual relationship with a former female patient.

According to the college, he "engaged in a variety of sexual acts... including intercourse."

Many of the sexual acts took place in Malcolmson's office. He even fathered a child with the woman.

A disciplinary committee ordered the 71-year-old psychiatrist's licence revoked and ordered him to pay $3,650 toward the costs of the hearing.
