Health officials in Ontario confirmed six new cases of swine flu Friday, bringing the provincial total to 62.
All of the cases are mild, and no one has been hospitalized, said Dr. David Williams, Ontario's chief medical officer.
Hamilton reported its first case of the virus, and one case was reported by the Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit.
Three of the cases were in Toronto and one in York.
Williams said he expects the total number of cases in the province to rise during the next few days as laboratories finish testing the backlog of samples.
Also Friday, Prince Edward Island confirmed one new case, and Nova Scotia confirmed three more cases. Officials in Alberta also confirmed a woman who died earlier this week had the H1N1 influenza A virus, but she also had other underlying health issues.
That gives Canada a total of at least 224 confirmed cases of this particular strain of swine flu, which originated in Mexico a few weeks ago and has spread to several other countries since.
