Eight-year-old Victoria Stafford, shown in a family photo from July 2008, has been missing since she left her elementary school in Woodstock, Ont., on April 8. (Canadian Press)Investigators in the case of a missing southwestern Ontario girl say they want to identify and speak to the driver of a vehicle that was caught on surveillance video, the same one that captured the eight-year-old and her abductor walking after school last month.
"We're not looking at it as a suspect vehicle .… Out of the many vehicles that were seen in the surveillance tape, this was one which we had been unable to identify," said Const. Laurie-Anne Maitland of the Oxford Community Police Service.
The vehicle is described as dark-coloured and small to mid-sized.
"The make and the model of the vehicle have not been identified at this time," Maitland said, adding, "further efforts are being made in this regard."
Police hope that someone will recognize the vehicle and come forward, she said.
Investigators want to identify and speak to the driver of a vehicle that was caught on surveillance video, the same one that captured Stafford and her abductor walking after school last month. (CBC)Victoria, known as Tori to her family and friends, was filmed by a surveillance camera on April 8 walking away from her school with an unidentified woman, who was wearing a baggy white coat and black jeans in Woodstock, Ont., which is east of London.
Police said they've determined that the two were walking away from the girl's school and toward the parking lot of a nearby nursing home.
On April 28, local police offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons who abducted Tori.
Police released a composite sketch of the female abductor and said they believe she is between 19 and 25 years old with long straight black hair, weighing between 120 and 125 pounds.
Tori's disappearance was featured on the U.S. TV show, America's Most Wanted.
Anyone with information can call Oxford police at (519) 537-2323, or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS.
