Get ready for a big-time traffic headache in Toronto this weekend.
The city's transportation department says the Don Valley Parkway will be closed Saturday and Sunday for spring maintenance.
"This is important work that needs to be done to maintain safe travel conditions," said Gary Welsh, general manager of the city's transportation services, in a news release.
According to the release, the parkway will be shut down so crews can perform maintenance. "In order to undertake this work safely, a full closure of the Don Valley Parkway is required."
The heavily used artery connecting Highway 401 with the Gardiner Expressway will be closed in both directions from Saturday at 2 a.m. to Monday at 5 a.m.
Crews will be cleaning catch basins, resurfacing parts of the roadway, conducting maintenance of closed circuit televisions, painting, sweeping and removing litter.
"Motorists should be advised to be patient and make sure to take extra time to get to and from their destinations," said Welsh.
Driver are advised to use Victoria Park Avenue, Don Mills Road, Bayview Avenue and Kingston Road as alternative routes during the closure.
