The Toronto Raptors play their final home game of a disappointing 2008-09 season Sunday, against a Philadelphia 76ers team that is skidding into the playoffs.

Toronto (30-49) will play road games against Washington and Chicago to finish out the schedule, missing the playoffs for the first time in three years.

"I expected we would be better, just like everybody else, just like the fans that watch, the players that play and the media that cover it," coach Jay Triano said Saturday. "I still think that this team is better than its record shows."

Triano is 22-40 since taking over from fired coach Sam Mitchell in early December.

Toronto fell on a last-second shot by Washington on Friday at the Air Canada Centre. Chris Bosh scored 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds in the 100-98 loss, with Jason Kapono pouring in 20 points.

Kapono scored 15 of them in the final quarter as the Raptors rallied from a deficit. Jose Calderon contributed 15 points and 11 assists..

Fan support appreciated

Bosh said Saturday the fans deserve a lot of credit for supporting the team through a surprisingly difficult season.

"Everybody isn't fortunate to be able to play in front of 20,000 every night ... I really appreciate it," said Bosh.

Philadelphia (40-39) has lost four consecutive games and it won't get any easier after the Raptors, with the team closing with games against eastern powers Boston and Cleveland.

The 76ers can finish anywhere from fifth to eighth in the conference.

Andre Iguodala scored 26 in a 100-92 loss to the Cavaliers on Friday, with Andre Miller and Louis Williams adding 17 points.

"Teams are getting into the teeth of our defence and kicking out for the easy [three-pointers] and we just can't let that happen," said guard Willie Green. "To be a good team, it starts on defence. Our whole offence is predicated off our defence."

Philadelphia has won two of the three previous meetings with the Raptors this season.
