Two police officers were taken to hospital after an apparent domestic dispute at an east Toronto apartment Thursday that left a woman dead and a man with gunshot wounds.
Frank Phillips, a spokesman for Ontario's Special Investigations Unit, said one officer was in hospital with "serious knife wounds to the left arm, hand and forehead."
A second officer was also taken to hospital, but police haven't said how he was injured.
The officers responded to the east-end apartment complex on Eppleworth Avenue near Kennedy Road and Eglinton Avenue after a child called 911 saying, "My dad is going to stab my mom."
When police confronted a man at the scene, he lunged at an officer with a knife. The man was subsequently shot by an officer, a police source told CBC News.
The man's condition and the conditions of the officers are not yet known, but they are believed to be not life-threatening.
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has been called in. The unit is a civilian agency that investigates serious injuries or deaths involving police.
A nearby school was locked down during the incident.
