The Toronto Raptors centre sat out Sunday afternoon's game against the Los Angeles Clippers with a sore left heel.
There was no immediate word from the Raptors when Bargnani might return to action.
Bargnani's absence snapped his streak of consecutive games played at 130.
Sunday marked the first time the 23-year-old centre missed a game since Dec. 9, 2007, when he sat out against the Houston Rockets.
The loss of Bargnani is a big blow for the Raptors, as the Italian was averaging 19.8 points and 6.0 rebounds in his last nine games.
In total, Bargnani, the first overall pick in the 2006 draft, is averaging 15.1 points and 5.4 rebounds in 69 games this season.
Bargnani wasn't the only player to miss Sunday's game because of injury.
Clippers forward Al Thornton was ruled out because of a sore right shoulder.
