Jane Creba, 15, was shot to death on Dec. 26, as two groups of people exchanged gunfire in a crowd of holiday shoppers on Yonge Street.
A Toronto courtroom was told in detail on Monday about the final minutes of Jane Creba's life.
A man who witnessed the gunfight on Yonge Street on Boxing Day, 2005, testified he saw the 15-year-old Grade 10 student crawling on her hands and knees, moaning for help.
A 20-year-old man is on trial, charged with one count of second-degree murder and six counts of attempted murder.
The accused, who was a minor at the time of the shooting, can only be identified by the initials J.S.R.
He had plead not guilty to all charges.
On Monday, Artem Verectchaguine told the court he was in a southbound car on Yonge Street.
As he and his friend approached the Foot Locker store people began spilling onto the street in front of their car.
They stopped. Verectchaguine looked over and saw a man firing a gun that was hidden in his sleeve and another man returning fire as he ran backward.
Verectchaguine ducked and hugged his knees. He told the court it was like the position flight attendants tell you to assume to prepare for an airplane crash.
When he couldn't hear gunshots anymore, Verectchaguine opened the door of the car, crawled out and surveyed the scene.
He said he saw two young women who had been shot, lying inside the front doors of Foot Locker.
Then he told the jury, "I saw another girl crawling on all fours" coming towards his car. "Her face was covered in blood. On her left cheek there was something black. I assumed she was hit in the face."
The gunshot victim he described was 15-year-old Jane Creba.
Verectchaguine testified that she crawled a few steps, then fell out of sight.
The court heard that Creba ended up lying near the right front wheel of the car next to the curb.
Earlier in the trial, a pathologist testified the Riverdale Collegiate student was shot between her shoulder blades and the bullet exited the base of her neck.
Verectchaguine testified he saw a man the jury was told was Dr. Ajay Sahajpal cradling her head.
Creba was pronounced dead at hospital a short time later.
The trial continues.
