Police have charged the victim of Tuesday's shooting at a Toronto high school with armed robbery.
The charges were laid 24 hours after the 16-year-old — who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act — was found bleeding in the hallway of Bendale Business and Technical Institute near Midland Avenue and Lawrence Avenue.
A second male, Mark Deicsics, 18, of Toronto, has also been charged with armed robbery.
Police said they are still searching for more suspects they believe were involved in the attempted robbery outside the high school just before noon on Tuesday.
In an effort to calm fears, police said they are confident there is no continuing danger to Bendale students.
"At this point in the investigation and with the information that we have received, this does not appear to be a random act of violence. It was something that transpired and was not a … random incident," Const. Wendy Drummond told CBC News.
In spite of the reassurance, some parents said they were keeping their children home on Wednesday.
Heather Hendrie said she cried tears of joy when she was reunited with her 18-year-old daughter Stephanie.
"I am just going to have to make sure that she's OK, and she's my biggest concern right now, so from here I really don't know right now. I am just glad that I have her back and I have her in my arms," she said.
