Days after a massive explosion and fire forced thousands of people to be evacuated from a northwest Toronto neighbourhood, two law firms say they will file a class-action lawsuit.
The firms say Sunrise Propane Energy Group Inc., the City of Toronto, the province of Ontario and the Technical Standards and Safety Authority are named in a notice of action to be filed Wednesday.
The firms say they will represent residents, homeowners and businesses who sustained damages from the blast and fire, which blew out doors, windows and left six homes structurally unsafe.
Stevenson LLP and Bogoroch & Associates say they will commence the class action for plaintiffs Giuseppina and Gianfrano (John) Santoro.
The blast at Sunrise Propane Industrial Gases early Sunday morning forced the evacuation of a neighbourhood that houses about 12,500 people and several businesses.
A body was found Monday in the charred remains of the propane facility and a firefighter died at the scene Sunday.
