Bombardier cancelled the early Monday shift at its airplane plant in northwestern Toronto because of significant damage to the plant following a weekend explosion.
Spokesman John Arnone said there was serious external damage to Bombardier's Downsview facility on Garratt Boulevard as a result of the explosions at a nearby propane facility that rocked the area early Sunday morning.
"We're currently on a watch to determine if it's safe enough for our employees to return for the afternoon shift," said Arnone.
Bombardier said more time is needed to clean up and ensure the area is safe for workers, but on Monday afternoon the company said it would return to regular shifts.
No Bombardier employees were injured in the 4 a.m. blast at Sunrise Propane Industrial Gases, which forced the evacuation of a neighbourhood that's home to more than 12,000 people.
Approximately 4,500 people work at the Toronto Bombardier plant, which manufactures aircraft, equipment and parts.
