An asking price of merely a loonie garnered a few jokes and some media attention, but not any serious offers on a Toronto home.

Faced with slumping home sales in Toronto, an enterprising couple listed the east-end two-storey home for $1. They opened for offers Monday.

Owner and house flipper Omar Ibrahim said the measly price was an attempt to see whether they could get a reasonable offer for the three-bedroom, freshly painted home.

Apparently, it failed. The real estate broker said Monday that while some people jokingly said they would buy the home for $2, there were no serious offers.

Ibrahim had previously said he would not let the home go for a loonie.

As a result, the owners have taken the home off the market, to be listed next month with a conventional asking price.

Real estate broker Tony Bassels said a similar experiment with a Willowdale home in 2004 resulted in the property selling for $960,000.
