Transit unions promise 48 hours strike notice

Toronto transit riders won't have to make alternate travel arrangements ahead of a threatened strike on Tuesday morning.
Two separate transit unions, which are in a legal strike position as of 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, have agreed to give 48-hours notice of any walkout.
The pledge was made as both CUPE and the Amalgamated Transit Union indicated some progress was made in weekend contract talks.
One key issue for the ATU is compensation for injured or assaulted workers who don't receive full pay if they have to miss work.
Both unions represent almost 9,500 workers at the Toronto Transit Commission, which moves more than one million riders on weekdays.
