Ontario's finance minister is taking another jab at federal counterpart Jim Flaherty for his constant criticism of the province's economic policies.

Following Tuesday's provincial budget, Dwight Duncan suggested that Flaherty is assuming the role of unofficial leader of the provincial Opposition — a curious move for a federal politician.

It's a "unique circumstance" that the person criticizing Ontario's business tax rates is sitting in the House of Commons and not the provincial legislature, Duncan said.

Still, Duncan extended an olive branch of sorts to the federal finance minister.

It's time Flaherty put aside his differences with the Ontario Liberals and sat down to talk about how to improve the economy, Duncan said.

Tuesday's provincial budget flatly dismissed Flaherty's calls for rigorous business tax cuts and instead favoured billion-dollar investments in training and infrastructure.
