As a fare increase approaches, it's becoming harder and harder to obtain tokens at your local TTC station.
The price of tokens is set to increase to $2.25 from $2.10 on Nov. 4.
Some riders try to save money by hoarding tokens at the old price, but the TTC knows that ploy and has started to restrict token sales.
At token machines customers can only buy four at a time, and the machines no longer accept $20 bills.
Many customers find this infuriating, especially since bank machines usually only spit out $20 bills.
"The bottom line is, when I am using the machine to buy tokens, I usually only have a $20," one rider told CBC News. "Only being able to put in a $10 is a nuisance."
But as long as riders try to hoard tokens, the TTC says it has to act.
"Tokens are expensive to produce … we simply don't have enough if everyone stored 100 at home," said Coun. Adam Giambrone, chair of the TTC.
