The University of Toronto Blues have a rich, century-old football tradition full of banners and trophies, but now they have one more honour — the longest losing streak in Canadian university history.
The Blues picked up their Canadian Interuniversity Sport record 48th-straight loss Saturday in embarrassing fashion.
Randy McAuley scored two touchdowns as the Western Mustangs pummeled Toronto 44-1 in front of over 5,000 fans at TD Waterhouse Stadium in London, Ont.
Toronto's last victory was a come-from-behind 13-11 decision over the Windsor Lancers during the 2001 season that ended an 18-game losing streak.
The Blues, who have won Grey Cups, Vanier Cups and Yates Cup titles over their 120-plus year history, broke the previous futility streak held by the York Lions (1988-'95).
Toronto, winless in seven contests this season, last posted a winning record in 1995 when it went 4-3-1.
