Preliminary tests have found high levels of lead in the tap water at Queen's Park, and people are being warned not to drink it.

Seven of 20 tested sources of tap water at the Ontario legislature were found to have higher than allowable levels of lead.

Letters were sent to employees and MPPs about the problem, while signs will be put up inside washrooms to alert tourists.

More extensive tests are under way and a consultant has been hired to locate the source of the contamination.

The building is already equipped with 21 water coolers for use by the public and employees.
