Linda Jackson has survived a ballot recount in the Nov. 13 civic election and is set to become the next mayor of Vaughan, according to official results of a recount released Thursday.

But there are still calls from the deposed mayor for an investigation into "irregularities."

The recount of completed ballots came after incumbent Michael Di Biase disputed his 90-vote loss following a long, bitter race.

In the end, a computerized count showed the narrow gap had widened to 94 votes.

Di Biase is now calling for an investigation into what he calls "numerous irregularities" in a "flawed process."

The deposed mayor claims that during the recount a note was found in a ballot box that alleged the box had been found unattended on voting day.

Di Biase wants the results from that ballot box to be discarded, a move that would result in victory for him. City officials were not commenting on the claims.

The mayoral race in the city north of Toronto has been marked by allegations of improprieties and scandal.

Even the special council meeting called to consider a recount last week spun out of control as rowdy crowds disrupted the meeting for nearly an hour. In the end, councillors unanimously voted in support of a machine recount.

The mayor-elect will be officially sworn in at Monday's council meeting.
