The abduction, robbery and beating of a 48-year-old Toronto man is not related to similar incidents in York Region, police said Tuesday.
Authorities said the Toronto man was taken from an underground parking garage Monday morning in the Overlea Boulevard and Thorncliffe Park Drive area.
The man's face was covered with a cloth and he was forced into a car and beaten until he revealed the PIN number for his bank card, Toronto police said.
Police are searching for three suspects in their late teens or early 20s who drove away in a grey Jeep Cherokee or Liberty. One may go by the name of Doc.
Two other incidents involving an abduction and robbery occurred recently in York Region.
On Monday at around 3 a.m., a 20-year-old woman contacted York Regional Police to say she was abducted from her driveway at gunpoint in Richmond Hill. She was forced into a vehicle by three suspects and driven to an ATM where she was made to withdraw cash.
The woman was released. Police say she received minor injuries to her face during the ordeal.
Police are looking for three men driving a beige Honda Accord. Two of the men, thought to be in their early 20s, were wearing balaclavas and the third was wearing a bandana.
That incident was the second involving an abduction and robbery in York Region in the last two weeks.
Earlier this month, a 21-year-old was abducted from her driveway in Markham and was taken to ATMs in the area and forced to give her PIN number.
The suspects in that case are also three men in their early 20s, one of them wearing a bandana, York Regional Police said.
