Police say a "good Samaritan" has turned in several thousands of dollars in cash after finding it while walking in the Royal York Road and Lakeshore Boulevard West area.

The money was turned into the Toronto Police Service's 22 Division substation on Lakeshore Boulevard West in Etobicoke on Saturday morning.

Police are asking the owner of the money to come and pick it up.

Details such as where the cash was found, whether it was found in something or the exact amount of cash is not being released to ensure the rightful owner is found.

Police said the finder asked not to be identified, but if no one claims the money after three months, that person will get to keep it.
