Four people from Toronto and one from Whitehorse are dead after a single-car accident north of the Arctic Circle on Yukon's Dempster Highway.
Police say a vehicle with six adult males went off the road and rolled down a steep embankment near the N.W.T.-Yukon border around 8:30 p.m. PT on Monday.
RCMP from Dawson City and Fort McPherson were called to the scene, but by the time police arrived, the four had died. The other two in the car were seriously injured, and one died before he could be moved to hospital.
The crash occurred just west of the Yukon-N.W.T. border on the Dempster
The lone survivor was taken to hospital in Inuvik, where he was listed in stable condition.
Police say the names of the victims are being withheld until their families can be notified.
Dawson RCMP Sgt. Dan Gaudet says there is no indication alcohol played a factor in the accident. He says it appears the vehicle skidded out of control on the gravel highway and rolled down the embankment.
