A Toronto man who taught gymnastics at several Toronto-area clubs is facing charges after he allegedly advised an undercover online officer to commit sexual acts on a young child, police say.
Toronto police received a tip from Edmonton police that a suspected online pedophile was advertising his position as a gymnastics coach and his attraction to girls aged six to 16.
When undercover police made contact with the accused, he allegedly advised an officer to commit sexual acts on a young child, police said.
Chad Meikle, 33, of Toronto was arrested Wednesday. He faces charges of counselling to commit an indictable offence, theft and possession of property obtained by crime.
When conducting a search of the suspect's home, police say, they found child pornography images and personal items belonging to young girls.
Police said Meikle has taught at five different Toronto-area gymnastic clubs over the past 10 years, including Pickering Athletic Club, the East York Gymnastics Club, Scarborough Olympians Gymnastics Club, Birchmount Gymnastics Centre and Toronto Gymnastics International.
Police plan to lay child pornography charges against Meikle on Monday.
