A 10-metre-long sinkhole on Sheppard Avenue might not be repaired for a week or longer, Toronto officials say.

The hole – between Bathurst Street and Senlac Road – was caused by a watermain break early Wednesday.

Police say all four lanes just east of a bridge straddling the West Don River sank by about three metres.

It is the second major sinkhole in the area in 2006.

An intersection in Vaughan – at Jane Street and Highway 7 – was closed in February when a watermain break created a large crater.

Those repairs are expected to be completed by late May.
