Ontario budget highlights include spending on transportation infrastructure, education and health care.

Highlights of 2006-2007 Ontario budget
$1.2 billion for public transit and local road and bridge repair. $800 million of that to be spent in the Greater Toronto Area.
$1.9 billion increase to Health care spending up, to a total of $35.4 billion. Also announced: funding to make Ontario the first province in Canada to fund insulin pumps for children with diabetes.
$500 million increase to post-secondary education. Spending on schools up $424 million to $11.2 billion.
Revenues $83.9 billion in fiscal 2005, $2.25 billion higher thanks to stronger economic growth than expected.
Deficit projection for fiscal 2006 remains at $2.4 billion. This includes $1 billion contingency fund.
Debt goes up $500 million to $159 billion, Ontario will pay $9.4 billion in interest charges on the debt.
Welfare and social assistance rates to increase two per cent. Clawback of federal child tax credit to remain in place.
$6 million for libraries and literacy programs on First Nations reserves.
$50 million for The Royal Ontario Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the National Ballet School and other arts operations. 18 per cent tax credit extended to March 2007 for film production houses.
$896 million budgeted for Agriculture in 2006-07, down from $1.14 billion in 2005.
