Ontario Provincial Police say highway spot checks on the Victoria Day weekend turned up hundreds of improperly installed child car seats.

Chief Supt. Bill Grodzinski said more than 400 car seats were checked during the OPP's holiday weekend safety blitz.

Grodzinski said 85 per cent of them were not being used correctly.

In total, the OPP charged about 1,300 motorists with traffic-related offences.
