Police have laid 17 more charges against a former undercover officer at the centre of an investigation into alleged kickbacks and bribes in Toronto's entertainment district.

Const. William McCormack Jr. was charged Friday with eight criminal offences, including four counts of breach of trust by a public officer, two counts of fraud on the government and two counts of obstruction of justice.

McCormack, the son of former Toronto Police chief William McCormack, was also charged with nine counts of misconduct under the Police Services Act.

The charges come more than five months after McCormack and three other officers were charged with numerous offences following an illegal-gambling probe conducted jointly by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Ontario Provincial Police and various regional forces.

The investigation alleged that officers in the 52 Division plainclothes unit accepted thousands of dollars in bribes in return for warning bar owners about visits by liquor inspectors.

The unit was disbanded on April 15, and all of its officers reassigned.

In addition to McCormack, two of the other officers charged in the spring were also charged Friday under the Police Services Act.

Const. Jodie Watson was charged with one count of misconduct.

Const. George Kouroudis was charged with three counts of misconduct.
