The Toronto Police Service has laid a total of 55 new disciplinary charges against eight officers in relation to an investigation into alleged influence peddling in the city's entertainment district.

The new Police Act charges which will be served this week, include breach of trust allegations and code of conduct offences.

The eight officers will remain on duty until the charges are dealt with.

The charges are related to allegations that officers either demanded or accepted cash from downtown bars and restaurants in exchange for help in acquiring liquor licenses or tips on upcoming police raids.

The internal discipline charges stem from an investigation which led to criminal charges against Rick McIntosh, the former president of the Toronto Police Association, and Det. Const. William McCormack Jr., the son of a former Toronto Police chief.

Three officers already face 26 criminal charges related to alleged kickbacks in Toronto's entertainment district.
