It was finally revealed Thursday that the RCMP is investigating allegations of wrongdoing and corruption in the Toronto police force.
RCMP Chief Supt. Ben Soave said allegations against Toronto police officers were brought to him by members of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) he leads.
Soave says he hopes the probe will lead to criminal charges.

The CFSEU specializes in organized-crime investigations. It involves members of the RCMP, Toronto police and area municipal forces, CSIS, and other organizations.
Soave says, when he heard the allegations, he went directly to the professional standards branch of the Toronto Police Service.
Alan Heisey, chair of the Toronto Police Services Board, says the probe constitutes an independent investigation.
