Four Toronto Police officers have been charged under the Police Services Act after an internal investigation into their relationship with a used-car dealer.

Const. Michael Thompson, Const. Robert Correa and Const. Michael McCormack were all charged over the weekend.

Police Chief Julian Fantino said Monday that a fourth officer would also be charged.

The four officers face a total of 14 charges, including discreditable conduct and insubordination, Fantino said.

The charges allege that the four officers associated with a known criminal, and appeared in uniform to vouch for him when he tried to win back his licence to sell cars.

Police are now looking at allegations of money laundering involving the car dealership.

The chief met with the Police Services Board on Monday to discuss the charges. Following the meeting, board chair Alan Heisey said the investigation would be handled internally for the time being.

McCormack, the son of former police chief William McCormack, sits on the board of the union representing Toronto Police officers.

He has been asked to step down from the union executive, but has not said whether he will do so.

Last week, Toronto Police Association president Rick McIntosh temporarily stepped aside after he was linked to a criminal investigation involving McCormack's brother.

Det. Const. William McCormack Jr. was suspended from the force on April 15, following an investigation into allegations of bribery and kickbacks in Toronto's entertainment district.
