Ontario's energy minister, Chris Stockwell, promises officials with Ontario Power Generation will cooperate fully with police in the wake of a weekend tragedy.
A woman and her young son died on Sunday when they were swept over a cliff by water released from the Barrett Chute Dam, 100km west of Ottawa.
Cindy (Cynthia) Cadieaux, 32, and her son Aaron, 7, from Renfrew, died in the incident.
On Monday, OPP investigators questioned officials with the utility. Stockwell spoke with reporters at Queen's Park.
"I spoke with [OPG] staff yesterday. Their belief was that it was a standard procedure," Stockwell says. "But again, it's better that we wait for the police to work their way through that and figure out what it is they are going to do. All I can tell you is it's a terrible tragedy and everyone is upset about it."
An official with Ontario Power Generation says the water was released from the dam according to standard operating procedure.
