A 47-year-old Thornhill, Ont. man has been charged with stunt driving after police stopped a vehicle clocked at twice the legal speed limit.

Ontario Provincial Police stopped a white Lexus after it was found travelling at 200 km/h in a 100-km/h zone on Highway 407, north of Toronto around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

The law calls for an immediate seven-day licence suspension, and seizure of the vehicle for seven days. Upon conviction, the offence also carries the loss of six demerit points and a minimum fine of $2,000.

The legislation was enacted in October 2007 following a series of high profile street racing incidents around the city.

He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 22.
