The man accused of running down Toronto police Sgt. Ryan Russell with a snowplow will go on trial next January.

Russell died in the line of duty, when he was struck by a stolen snowplow that was driving erratically through Toronto streets on Jan. 12, 2011.

Richard Kachkar faces a first-degree murder charge in the Toronto police officer’s death.

Kachkar’s trial will begin on Jan. 7, 2013, nearly two years to the date that Russell was killed.

When Russell died, he was honoured with a public funeral that was attended by thousands of people, including police officers from across North America.

Russell is survied by his wife, Christine, and his son Nolan, who was two years old at the time.
