SIU probes death of man in Georgetown, Ont., home
The province's police watchdog has opened an investigation into the death of a 65-year-old man at a Georgetown home.
The Special Investigations Unit says Halton Regional police officers arrived at the residence around 2:15 p.m. on Saturday in response to a call that a female had been shot.
The SIU says officers set up a perimeter and tried to communicate with the man, but that soon after shots rang out.
It says a short time later officers entered the residence and found David Allen and 52-year-old Debra Allen dead from gunshot wounds.
The SIU is an arm's-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
The Peel District School Board says in a release that a memorial table is being set up and counselling made available for Beatty-Fleming Senior Public School students after a principal with the same name as Debra Allen died Saturday.
The school board expresses its condolences for her death, and has lowered its flag to half-mast at all schools in her honour.
