A man in his 20s, is in hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a number of shots were fired into a restaurant at Yorkdale mall just after early Saturday morning.
Police say the victim was a patron of the restaurant and the suspect left the scene in a vehicle, taking the Yorkdale service road to the Allen expressway. They are looking for a Silver Honda CRV. There may be more than one suspect.
A window on the ground floor of Joey restaurant was riddled with bullet holes. The restaurant opened at Yorkdale in November.
A statement from the Joey Restaurant Groups said, "Our restaurants are safe environments for the millions of guests we serve across the country each year."
Yorkdale said in a statement, "[c]ustomer safety is always our primary concern and our Security department are cooperating and providing investigative assistance to Toronto Police Services."
Saturday’s shooting is the second such incident at the mall in less than two months. On March 30, a man was shot dead in the parking lot after a confrontation between two groups of men.
Some customers on Saturday said they find the recent violence disconcerting.
"Let people know what is going on and that they're not trying to hide it because I think hiding it is just going to create more problems than anything else," said Anita Stanusic, who shops at Yorkdale frequently.
The mall was open Saturday but Joey restaurant will remain closed while police investigate.
