A group of Ryerson University fashion students have teamed up with a group of sex workers to raise money and awareness for women in marginalized communities.
The unlikely pairing joined forces for the "Out of the Shadows" fashion show, where sex workers walk down the runway, dressed in a unique, student-made fashion creation.
The event was held on Friday to mark International Women's Day.
The show was co-created by Carly Kalish, a social worker who wanted to empower the women she was working with.
It's about "changing the dialogue in people's lives, so it's not just about sitting in a drop-in all day," she told CBC News. "It's about talking about these really cool, creative projects you're working on."
