Police have arrested a suspect in an apparently targeted sexual assault in which both a woman and a young girl in the same home were assaulted.

Investigators say the suspect, brandishing a knife, forced his way into the residence of a woman in her 20s on Thursday in the Coxwell Avenue and Gerrard Street area. He sexually assaulted her and then also assaulted a young girl staying at the same home, police say.

Before leaving the victims, he allegedly stole items belonging to the woman.

The suspect was identified as 46-year-old Elric Benjamin MacArthur, of Toronto.

He was arrested Friday afternoon in Hamilton.

He is charged with sexual assault with a weapon, sexual interference, forcible confinement, break and enter to commit an indictable offence and robbery.

He will appear in court in Toronto on Saturday.
