Environment Canada has lifted a severe thunderstorm watch for Toronto, and parts of Halton, Peel, York and Durham regions, though weather watches and warnings remain in effect elsewhere in southern Ontario.

By 9 p.m. a severe thunderstorm warning remained in effect for parts of DufferinInnisfil, Barrie, Orillia and Midland regions, and further north into Muskoka, Parry Sound and Haliburton

Environment Canada said the arrival of a cold front along with a series of thunderstorms leaves open the possibility of some dangerous weather. It said thunderstorms may develop with the potential to pour as much of 50 mm of rain an hour on some locations. The storms could also carry heavy winds with them and hail.

Members of the public are reminded to immediately seek cover if threatening weather approaches.
