Toronto's first rooftop ice rink revealed in financial district
Rink built as part of Molson Canadian contest
Ice skating in Toronto has reached new heights as brewer Molson Canadian revealed a rooftop rink it built in the city's financial district.
The 100-by-45-foot rink 32 stories up is located on the roof of 120 Adelaide St. W.
The beer company built the rink for its #AnythingForHockey contest, which launched in October 2015.
Fans were asked to submit their hockey stories on social media for a chance to win the grand prize of a trip to Toronto to be featured in a commercial set at the rooftop rink. The contest winners skated on the ice last week.
Last year, the beer company built a professionally-made rink in a remote area of the Rocky Mountains in British Columbia to serve as the grand prize location of its campaign.
"This year we need to find something just as epic, but also a little bit more unique," said Duncan Fraser, Marketing Manager for Molson Canadian.
With the ad done, Fraser says the public can purchase ice time between January 29 and February 7. The package includes 90 minutes of ice time for up to 20 people. A second contest has also been announced to win ice time.
"We knew people would be excited, but we didn't expect it to be this big," he said.
