RCMP caught a suspected drug dealer after a daring chase up the side of a Mississauga condo tower on Friday.

The hunt for Ryan Belanger began in December 2013, when the RCMP discovered a cocaine production facility on Wynford Drive in Toronto and connected it to Belanger, who is from Halifax but had connections in Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto.

A Canada-wide warrant was then issued for the 28-year-old. He was wanted for possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance and conspiracy to commit drug-related offences.

In the afternoon of July 4, officers from the Serious Organized Crime team tracked Belanger to a condo unit in Mississauga, the RCMP said.

Recognizing the police presence, Belanger attempted to escape by scaling the side of the building out of a 17th floor balcony, according to police. He entered an adjacent unit before being arrested.

He has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking.
  • Conspiracy.
  • Breaking and entering.
  • Obstructing a peace officer.

A woman was also charged with aiding Belanger at the condo.

Belanger is scheduled to appear in court on July 16.
