59-year-old man shot and killed in interaction with Durham Regional Police

Ontario's police watchdog is investigating a deadly shooting in Port Perry.

The Special Investigations Unit says Durham Regional Police officers were called to a house on Waterbury Crescent around 9:30 p.m. by a report of a distraught man. 

When they arrived, there was an "interaction" with a 59-year-old man who was shot and later pronounced dead in hospital 

No other details have been released.

A nine-member SIU team is now looking into the incident. 

The SIU is an arm's length agency that investigates cases with police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
