Police try to trace how Canadian ended up in U.S. landfill
Peel Regional Police are trying to trace the last steps of a Mississauga man whose body turned up in a Michigan landfill.
Kevin Joseph Arendt, 38, was last seen leaving a bar near Dundas Street and Confederation Parkway on June 27. He was driving his navy blue Jeep Liberty.
Two days later, his body was found in a Montrose Township landfill that is located about 110 kilometres northwest of Detroit.
It is still not clear how Arendt’s body ended up there and police are now trying to determine what happened after he drove away from the Mississauga bar.
His vehicle was found near the area where he lived.
Insp. George Koekkoek told reporters Thursday that police will canvass the part of Mississauga where Arendt lived and spent the night of June 27.
Koekkoek said police are still gathering information about Arendt’s background and they do not yet know the cause of his death.
