Toronto police are looking for a male suspect who entered a Parkdale apartment and attacked a woman in her bedroom.

Const. Tony Vella said the victim woke early Thursday morning to the sight of an intruder trying to get into her bed.

"She wakes up seeing this man, this stranger in her bedroom," he told CBC News on Thursday.

"He sexually assaults her, then the man runs off."

Police believe the suspect got into the ground-floor apartment by climbing through a window.

So far, the suspect description is vague: a 5’9" white male, with a medium build and dirty blond hair, who was wearing blue jeans and a grey shirt.

But police say they hope to get more information about the suspect from the victim and investigators will see if he was caught on any surveillance cameras in the area.

The attack comes just a day after police warned the public about a series of sexual assaults that have occurred in the area near Bloor and Christie streets this summer.

Since the start of the year, police say they have investigated 904 reported sexual assaults. That’s down from 1,049 at the same time last year.
