The province's police watchdog is investigating allegations of sexual assault against a Peel police officer.

 The alleged incident took place in May 2017.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified of the allegation by Peel Regional Police on Nov. 28.

The officer's name and rank have not been released.

A spokesperson for Peel police told CBC Toronto they would not comment on an SIU investigation.
