Pedestrian dead after streetcar accident
Man transported to hospital in life-threatening condition, later died
A 79-year-old pedestrian is dead after being hit by a TTC streetcar Thursday evening.
The streetcar struck the pedestrian while he was attempting to cross St. Clair Avenue West near Yonge Street.
He was transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition, police said. He died at the hospital.
A 62-year-old man was driving the streetcar eastbound on St. Clair Avenue West at the time of the collision.
The collision stopped streetcar service between St. Clair and St. Clair West stations, the TTC tweeted.
The 512 St. Clair streetcars were turning back at St. Clair West station. Shuttle buses were operating, but service has now been fully restored.
