A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a streetcar in Toronto's Chinatown neighbourhood on Friday evening, paramedics say.
Police were called to the scene in the Spadina Avenue and Sullivan Street area just after 6 p.m., for reports of a person struck and pinned under the vehicle.
Paramedics say the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
There is no word yet on the victim's age or gender.
"TTC's thoughts are with the victim and the victim's family, as well as our operator, this evening," the transit agency's spokesperson Brad Ross tweeted following the incident.
Spadina Avenue was closed between Queen and Dundas streets for several hours as police investigated as was expected to remain closed for several hours.
