Part of Highway 401 to close Sunday night
Construction scheduled along stretch from Pearson airport
The route from Pearson airport will be closed in part late Sunday night and early Monday morning — affecting travellers on one of the busiest flying days of the year.
The eastbound collector lanes on Highway 401 will be closed completely from Dufferin Street to Allen Road this weekend.
The closure is scheduled 11:30 p.m. on Sunday to 5:30 a.m. on Monday.
Officials say the closure will only go ahead if weather permits. So with freezing rain and ice warnings continuing throughout Saturday, weather could cancel the planned closure.
According to the Ministry of Transportation, the closure will affect motorists in the following ways:
- Those travelling eastbound in the collectors will be forced to exit the highway at Dufferin Street/Yorkdale Road.
- On-ramps to Highway 401 eastbound collectors from Allen Road northbound and southbound will be closed.
- Off-ramps from Highway 401's eastbound collectors to Allen Road northbound and southbound will be closed.
- Express to collector transfer at Allen Road will be closed.
