The leader of Ontario's Progressive Conservatives says his young daughter has been admitted to hospital in Toronto.

Tim Hudak issued a brief statement Monday in which he said his daughter, Miller, is receiving "excellent care" at the Hospital for Sick Children.

"My family and I are grateful for all the thoughts, prayers and well wishes we have been receiving," he said in the statement. "And we truly appreciate that we continue to be given our privacy during this time."

The statement only said Miller, who is almost four, was "recently" admitted and did not reveal why she needed medical care.

A spokeswoman for Hudak said no additional details would be provided.
