One person has been charged in connection to the shooting of a 22-year-old man in North York Sunday night.

Toronto police say the male victim was shot multiple times at around 8:20 p.m. near Jane Street and Steeles Avenue West, which is located just west of York University.

The victim was found by a passerby in the parking lot of Shoreham Public Sports and Wellness Academy. He was rushed to Sunnybrook hospital in critical condition, according to Insp. Anil Anand.

Anand told CBC News that a man in his 20s was in custody and a gun had been recovered by police.

Police were searching for a second person with the assistance of canine units after suspecting someone fled in a northeast direction after the shooting.

The incident was the fourth shooting on what was a violent Sunday in the city. Two people were injured in an apparent gunfight downtown. A short time after, police responded to the scene of a man shot multiple times in East York. There was also a homicide in the basement of a nail salon in Scarborough in the early morning hours.
