Students returned to a Brampton, Ont., school today for the first time since a fire claimed the life of one of their peers.
Ten-year-old Nicolas Gabriel died in a fire that ripped through a townhouse complex on Ardglen Drive on Sunday. He had been sleeping over at a friend’s house.
The Grade 4 student attended Sir Winston Churchill Public School, which is also located on the same street.
Today, students at his school signed a book of condolences.
"It's absolutely beyond moving to see children, age five and six and seven, write notes about missing Nick," said Brian Woodland, a spokesperson for the Peel District School Board.
Nicolas's family is expected to announce the plans for his funeral on Wednesday.
